To put it simply, Brooks has really good taste. Through a dedicated digging practice, he has amassed a record collection that borders on the enviable—a private archive of sounds we’ve been lucky enough to host twice during our residency at Eavesdrop. Both recordings have been in our personal rotations for months, so we’re pleased to be able to add another into the mix.
This month’s recording is, at its floor, a great showcase of time spent in the bins. At its ceiling, it’s the rhythmic ease of a familiar park path—strolling with a slouching elegance through New Age, Jazz, Illbient, IDM, and eventually finding repose in softly-padded, sun-drenched house and techno. But no matter how distant the styles of music, the through lines are evident. There is a humid, soft tactility in the most mechanical of Brooks’ selections, and unlikely sequences meld together with a serene logic that feels rare and vital. Even his most oddball pivots are chosen with such intention that they could still lift you out of a slump. As we move into a season of cleansing, let this mix be a testament to shedding excess and holding on to gems :)
